FARMERS RELEASED
KEEP UP PRODUCTION ARMED FORCES BOARD In all but two of the applications for the . release from camp of farmhands heard at yesterday’s sitting of the Gisborne Armed Forces Appeal Board, leave was recommended. The releases were recommended in order to assist farmers to keep up production, and in one case the board stipulated that 28 acres of wheat be sown. The board decided to reserve its decision after hearing an appeal by R. Zame, fisherman. Leave to withdraw the application was granted to T. A. Field, who had applied for the release of D. 11. McLeod, farmhand. The release of all the others appealed lor was recommended by the board on condition that the. reservists joined the Home Guard, the periods of release being as follows, the name of the person appealing following that of the reservist: — To November 30.—J. T. Rigby, farmer (selLf, conditionally upon his growing 2'i acres of wheat; D. T. Gooch, farmhand, T. C. Reichenbach (employer). To December 31.—H. Hollamby, shepherd, J. E. Brosnahan (employer). To January 31. —J. B. O’Meara, general farmhand, B. Mazengarb (em-, ployer); J. K. Batcheldor, shepherd, R. W. Watson (employer). To January 8. —D. Poulgrain, shepherd, K. G. Poulgrain (employer). To February 28. —From October I: L. T. Boyle, sharemilker, Mrs. M. I. Watt (employer); K. Baty, farmhand, Mangaheia station (National Primary Production Council): F. P. Sherriff, shepherd, estate of T. C. Williamson (employer): R. T. Duncan, shepherd, T. Duncan (employer). To March 31—H. Turner, shepherd, Common, Shelton and Co. (employer). Indefinite Leave. —J. D. Williams, sheepfarmer, estate'of K. S. Williams (employer); A. W. Dever, transport operator (self), the reservist also lodged an appeal against overseas service, the board deciding that he will not be liable in the meantime, but the decision to be subject to review at any time.
