(2.30 p.m.) CHUNGKING, Aug. 10. . Fierce fighting is unabated on the outskirts of Linchwan, which is completely surrounded, says a communique; Some points have changed Rands 10 times. United States planes bombed the waterfront at Haiphong, in IndoChina, causing extensive damage. They scored hits on steamers in port. A communique from Major-General Btilwell’s headquarters revealed that i£ direct hit was scored on a 4000-ton steamer. A large oil fire was started in the docks. All the bombs landed in •the target area. After the bombers Had released their loads, the escorting planes machine-gunned the docks.
