There was a l°rge attendance at the Mnkaraka-Matawhero Hall on Saturday night when a very successful dance was held by the patriotic committee. The function was intended to be in honour of Sergeant Pilot Toin Darton, but he was absent owing to illness. In apologising for his absence, the chairman of the patriotic committee, Mr. \V. W. Jonasen, announced that a presentation would be sent to Sergeant Pilot IJnrttin With the best wishes for his future. Music for the dancing was played by Miss Lena Hum’s orchestra, while extras were played by Misses Deluhunty and Dodd. The M.C. was Mr. W. Jonasen. ’the section of the committee responsible for the success of the function included Mesdnmes W. W. Jonasen, H. Lange. W. Livingston, ,1. Parker, D. Weastall, Beets, Dailey, L. ‘Eade, Vette, Owen, and W. Duilstan, Miss M. Fade, Messrs. W. W. Jonasen, J. Hdaslip, J. Ksiin, J. O'Donnell, W. Livingston, C. Reidy, I. Weastall and Vette. Sergeant Pilot Tom Darton, who has been on leave in the district, has been n popular player of tile Kia Ora Tennis Chib. On behalf of the members, he has been made the recipient of a gift. The weekly series of card evenings sponsored by the Makarakn branch of the New Zealand Labour Party colltinue to prove popular. Prise-winners at the latest function wereLadies.—Mrs. King.
