FIVE CHARGES FACED After each had pleaded guilty to the unlawful conversion - of a motor car, two soldiers, Wallace Edwin Reeve and James Arthur Third, faced between them five charges before Mr. Justice Johnston and jury in the Supreme Court in Gis,borne to-day. The charges arose out of an accident which occurred in Te Karaite on July G. when injuries were suffered by a man in a wheeled chair, Thomas Hall. The accused each pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful conversion .of a motor car owned b.y John, G. Bray, and not guilty to the other charges, which were: A joint charge of causing injury to Thomas Hall under such circumstances as to make, them guilty of manslaughter if death, had occurred: separate .charges, of negligent driving and separate charges of failing to. ston after an accident. Mr. L. T. Burn arch with him Mr. D. W. Res. appeared for Third, and Mr. A. A. Whitehead for Reeve.
, The jury was as follows: James A. Vagg, Alfred S. Jerams, James W. P. Riley, Archibald Christie, Alfred C. Lewis, John Stevenson, Rupert J. Scott, Arthur Young, . Robert Campbell, Frank Newman, William S. Allan and Samuel L. Joll. The Crown prosecutor, Mr. F. W. Nolan, said that 12 witnesses, were to be called for the Crown. He added that the evidence would show that the two accused converted the car to thenown use and went to Te Karaka, one of the accused saying they were going to Opotiki. It was alleged that while undertaking. that illegal act they injured Thomas Hall and also failed to stop. (Proceeding)
