WAIKANAE BEACH

eastern Access urged COST OF BOARD WALK An offer to provide the cost of a proposed board walk to the extent of £B7 for the 1 purpose of giving the Waikanae Beach access from the east was made in a letter from the Waikanae Beach Improvement Society read at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council. This offer , follows the removal of the footbridge at the southern end of Lowe street to the.railway yards, and it has been proposed to erect the bridge over the mouth of the Waikanae, Creek from Read’s quay. “You will realise that the bridge and walk would not normally be the concern of the society,” the letter stated, “but members feel, that there should be a nearer access than Grey street to the beach for Kaiti residents and others, also, a bridge at the mouth of the Waikanae Creek should be a distinct advantage to the town. The council decided to write to the Beach Improvement Society thanking it for its offer. The Mayor. Mr. N. 11. Bull, said that the board walk, which was to be 4ft. Gin. in width* was quite apart from the re-erection of the bridge.
