Railway Tip

Owing to construction work at the railway station, the cartage and depositing of refuse has been discontinued temporarily, at the railway tip. This was reported to the Gisborne Borough Council last night by the borough engineer, Mr. G. F. Clapeott, who stated that the cartage to the railway tip would be resumed within 10 days. Better Approaches For the purpose of improving the approaches of the town to persons arriving at Gisborne by railway, the borough engineer and supervising gardener are being asked to prepare a scheme for the. planting of trees, in areas thought suitable. This was agreed to by the Gisborne Borough Council at last night’s meeting, after Mr R Morse had said that the present position would create a very bad impression in the mind of anyone arriving in the town for the first time.

Acknowledgment from China After a delay of nearly three months, acknowledgment has ■., been received by th.e Presbyterian Missions Office of a sum of about £4OO that was cabled to a centre in Free China last May The money was forwarded for the support of New Zealand missionaries in the Canton district and for the Chinese church with which the mission is associated. Gratification is felt that it has been found possible to establish communication in spite of grave difficulties, and that the money will be devoted to the purpose for which it was intended.
