Fitzgerald, Gisborne, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Fitzgerald, Waikohu. Mrs. B. G. Kemp, Rere, is visiting her mother, Mrs. R. Bruce, "Linn Brae,” Manga papa. Mrs. W. A. Bowie, Kaiti esplanade, is leaving on Thursday on a brief visit to Tauranga. Miss P. Murphy, Kotemaori, is the guest of Mra. C. C. Dowding, Te Karaka, for the Barns-Graham —Dowding wedding. Mrs. Lawson Field, who has been staying at her cottage at Wainui Beach, returned to the Waimata Valley at the week-end. Mrs. A. H. DeCosta, Wainui Beach, left on Saturday for Wellington, where she :s the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Geoff. Warring. Miss Keyes, of Mount Pleasant Hospital, left on Saturday on her return to Auckland after spending a few days at the Masonic Hotel. Miss M. Jamieson, Hawke’s Bay, is the guest of Mrs. C. C. Dowding, “Rangatira,” Te Karaka, for the Barns-Graham —Dowding wedding. Miss N. Nolan, Wairon, and her brother, Sergeant W. Nolan, were the guests of Mrs. H. C. Nolan, “Otipi,” while on a brief visit to Gisborne last week. Miss G. Cumming, of the nursing staff of Mount Pleasant Hospital. Auckland, is visiting her- mother, .-Mrs: Cumming, Derby street. DANCING CLASS BREAK-UP The spirit of youth was abroad on Friday night when a jolly dance was held in the assembly hall at the Gisborne High School as a finale to the school dancing classes conducted by ' Miss N. Hayes throughout the winter months. A feature of the much-enjoyed programme was a series of particularly delightful demonstrations of modern ballroom dancing. The music was supplied by Mrs. W. Thomson. A delicious supper was served. STAFF DANCE A very successful dance organised by the stall of Walter Findlay. Limited, on Saturday night filled a dual purpose, to raise funds for the despatch of parcels to mem bers of the start serving with the overseas fighting forces, and to farewell a fellowmember, Miss M. Riddell, who is joining the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force. The function, which was held in Findlay s reception rooms, drew a large attendance, and the promoters had ample reason to feel gratified at the result of their efforts. The music was supplied by Mr. A. Pilkiugton, and Miss N. King contributed an oxlra. A delicious savoury supper was served. TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD A warm welcome was extended to a former member, Mrs. Morrison, Wairoa, and also to a visitor, Mrs, O’Brien, at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne branch ol the Townswomen's Guild, held in the Bon Accord Lounge yesterday afternoon, when Mrs. P. Barry presided over an attendance of 54 members. The aspirations were read by Mrs. Wilson, and Mrs. Lange was responsible for the “thought” for the month. A satisfactory financial statement was submitted by Mrs. A. Baillie. who also reported on behalf of the musical circle. A report on the activities of the drama circle was presented by Mrs. R. Johnson. A letter was received from headquarters in regard to the representation of the Gisborne branch at the anriual conference of the Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds, which will take place in Wellington on September 16. It was decided, in view of the prevailing conditions, to seek representation by the appointment of a deputy delegate in Wellington. Donations of bandages for the Red Cross Society were ackuowfedged by Mrs. Barry, who asked for further edntributions. . It was decided that members should bring donations of books to the September meeting for despatch to service camps. Gifts in aid of patriotic funds were donated by Mesdames Badhnm, Ratclirte, Soderston, Lange, and Atkins. It was announced that next month's meeting would take the form of th. annual birthday party. • Patriotic funds were augmented as the result of a well-patronised "bring and buy” stall, under the direction of Mesdames Torrie, Geddes, McKeague and Campbell, and to further benefit the funds it was agreed to arrange a jumble sale in the Parish Hall. , ■ , T Voeal solos were rendered by Mrs. Lyndon, and Mrs. W. Lange was heard in ar. elocutionary number. Mrs. Harrison was the accompanist. The hostesses were Mesdames Darling, Price, Hopkinson, Hankey, Hayes and Sutton.
