SINKING OF STEAMER DETENTION OF CAPTAIN (2.15 p.m.) MONTEVIDEO, Aug. 9. The Uruguayan Government has protested to Germany against the sinking of .the Uruguayan vessel Maldonaldo and has demanded an explanation regarding the detention aboard a submarine of tbe Maldonaldo’s captain ’Tfie Ma'ldor.aldo is the second Uruguayan vessel to be torpedoed. A crowd of 2000 demonstrated against the Axis to-night and stoned a German shop, injuring toe proprietor and two German customers.
