NEW BRITISH PLANES ' CRITICISM ANSWERED (British Official Wireless.) (3|_pjn.) RUGBY, July 14. Replying; to certain criticisms made during the. debate which followed the speech; in. the House of Commons of th'e Minister of Production, Captain Oliver Lyttelton, the Minister of Aircraft Production, Colonel J. J: Llewellin, said: there* were two new German planes; and' sufficient was known, about them for. him ta say that the Royal Air Forced newest plane, which; was. now coming out of production, was superior at nearly every height and as good at any height. Indeed, at mogt heights the plane we were now producing was superior to these newest German types. Colonel Llewellin- assured the House that we were- not putting the whole of our faith in American production. A great majority of what we needed in aircraft at least would still have, to be constructed here. One example of theimeasUres continuously being taken in the development of aircraft types was the fact that the Ministry of Aircraft Production had its own technical officers in the Middle East, who reported back immediately on the operational results of aircraft under desert conditions. With regard to torpedo-carrying aircraft, a new tycie was coming out for the Fleet Air Arm, but machines built for other purposes were also being equipped to carry torpedoes, or, alternatively, for service with the Bomber Command. At the moment, large quantities of bombers were being built and we were leaving the building of transport planes to the United States.
