SEBASTOPOL FORTRESS NEW BRITISH VENTURE SUBMARINES IN BALTIC(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (2 p.m.)3 LONDON, July 1. A special announcement from Hitler’s headquarters states that Sebastopol has fallen and that the German and Rumanian war flags are flying over the town and harbour. Earlier, the ordinary German communique reported that the breach of •the inner fortifications at Sebastopol had been enlarged to a break-through in several places. German troops, supported by the Luftwaffe, advanced to defence positions eastward of the town. Rumanian troops captured the town and harbour of Balaclava. The Moscow newspaper, Pravda, said that from dawn yesterday until this afternoon, the Luftwaffe made over 1000 sorties over Sebastopol and advanced positions. ~ , The Moscow radio declared that since the outbreak of the Russian-Ger-man war, Russian guerrillas had killed 150,000 Germans. German naval circles believe that British submarines have reached the Baltic Sea through the Stalin Canal, says the Evening Standard’s Stockholm correspondent. Submarine warfare in the Baltic has reached big proportions. Because of it, the only remaining passenger link between Germany and Sweden is the long sea route by way of Blensburg and Copenhagen. The correspondent adds that German imports of iron ore from Sweden seem to be in great danger.
