LONDONDERRY BASE

UNITED STATES NAVY BUILT IN SIX MONTHS (9.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 2. United States warships are operal ing from one of the most efficient and best equipped naval bases in Europe, situated at Londonderry. Constructed at a cost of several million pounds, 800 American technicians,aided by 2000 local workers, built the base in six months. All the equipment came from America, and the base is American manned from the commander to the ratings. Modern repair shops are able to service any ship. The base contains radio stations, a 200-bed hospital, and large camps dispersed over the Londonderry area. The Royal Navy and the American Navy co-operate under one scheme from their separate Londonderry bases, and the White Ensign and Stars and Stripes fly side by side over buildings shared by both. The commandant of .the United States base is Captain W. J. Larson, who served at Queenstown in the last war. It is disclosed that United States Marines have arrived in the United Kingdom.
