TAXICAB FARES
EXPLOITATION ALLEGED WARNING BY MINISTER (P.R.) WELLINGTON, this day. Taxi-drivers who attempted to exploit servicemen would get what was coming to them, declared .the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, in the House of Representatives last night, when replying to an urgent question from Mr. J. A. Lee on behalf of the member for Napier, the Hon. W. E. Barnard. Mr. Semple said that if lie were supplied with particulars of c.efinite cases of taxi-drivers demanding and receiving more than the fixed rates he would be glad to have them investigated and immediate action would be taken to stop such abuses. Personally he would not tolerate any exploitation of servicemen and the Transport Department had been instructed to keep a strict watch for any instances of overcharging. He suggested that servicemen engaging taxis should inquire the legal fare from the driver beforehand and report any , irregularity,
