ARTILLERY TRAINEES
240 OFFICER CADETS COMPLETION OF COURSE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Two hundred and forty officer cadets were marched out to-day after a course at the School of Artillery. They were inspected by Lieut.-General Puttick, Chief of the General Staff, who was accompanied by Major Winkler, commandant of the school. Lieut.-General Puttick said that on the personal efficiency of the officers might depend to a large degree the safety'of the country, and to tjie extent they might be involved in the outcome of the war. One weak officer had it in his power to upset the course of a battle. Success in battle turned on a very small thing sometimes, and a lost battle might affect the whole course of the campaign. He urged on them the importance of making the best use of the men under them and of looking after their welfare.
