UTMOST EXPANSION
SHIP CONSTRUCTION AUSTRALIAN PROJECT (Special Australian Correspondent.) (10.20 a.m.) CANBERRA, July 1. Merchant ships of a considerable tonnage will be built in Australia under a plan for increased mercantile and naval ship construction, the Navy Minister, Mr. N. J. Makin, has announced. This marks-an important change in earlier plans for the concentration of Australian shipbuilding facilities on maintenance rather than construction. “Every facility we have for Ship construction will be developed so that Australia can make its full contribution in replacing the shipping so essential to ultimate victory,” said Mr. Makin. r
