IN ALLIED FORCES
POSITION OF AMERICANS NO IMMEDIATE TRANSFER (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Preaa AaanA (British Oll'icial Wireless.) Reed. 2 pan. RUGBY. Jan. 30. The position of American citizens who, prior to the entry of the United States into the war, enlisted in tire armed forces of the countries already fighting against the Axis Powers, is the subject of a statement from the American embassy here. It is staled that while it is only natural that many of these Americans should desire to serve under their own flag, the immediate transfer of all to the United States forces would materially reduce the effectiveness of the units in which they are now serving and ihus impair the value of overall military effort against the common enemies. Transfer, however, under certain conditions is envisaged and meanwhile it is urged that the Americans involved can best serve their • country’s interests by remaining in their present units.
