Aviation observers believe that the majority of the aircraft flying over Manila are a Japanese version of the Seversky' type, known as the “zero fighter.” When manufactured by Major do Seversky in the United States the type was originally a single-seater combat machine. The Japanese bought a number of them and "then modified them into a two-seater. The type naturally does not carry a big bomb load, but .it is equipped with machine-guns and also small-calibre cannon. The four-engined type appearing spasmodically over the Philippines is a military version ofjhe four-engined flying-boat with which the Japanese have been operating the YokohamaMandated Islands service. They are an easy victim for fighters;
