LAMBING ESTIMATES GISBORNE DISTRICT UNDER N.Z. AVERAGE DOMINION'S HIGHEST Although on the average the Dominion estimated lambing percentages are the highest on record, those for the Gisborne land district are only about normal and a good way below the New Zealand average, The Dominion average was 91.11 per cent., the highest yet recorded. The number of breeding ewes, 20,030.933, was a record, as they have never before exceeded 20,000,000. During the past live years South Island returns have been consistently higher than those of the North Island, but this year the North Island average has been considerably increased in most parts, with the South Island figures being well sustained.

Otago-Southland maintained the highest average with 94.62 per cent., with Auckland next at 93 per cent. The East Coast-Hawke’s Bay area averaged 87.39 per cent., the lowest group being Marlborough-TJelson-Westland at 81.03 per cent. Figures for counties in the Gisborne land district are shown below:

The estimated number of lambs in the Dominion, as a result of the past season’s lambing, is set down as 18,250,862.
