SCHOOL FLOWER SHOW

Pupils of the Muriwai School, their parents and friends gathered yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Williams, Muriwai, where members of the Muriwai Ladies’ Patriotic Committee entertained the children, and the school flower show was held. In beautiful weather the grounds formed a pleasant setting for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Tlie children were entertained with games and races and were served with ice cream and fruit salad. Competitions were won by Mrs. G. Foster and Mrs. F. Lawrence.

Following afternoon tea, Mr. J. F. Mills, chairman of the Muriwai Patriotic Committee, thanked all who had helped in the success of the afternoon, particularly the members of the ladies’ committee and Mr. and Mrs. Williams for throwing open their grounds. .As a result of the afternoon a handsome donation to the general patriotic fund would be possible.

The.numerous exhibits in the flower show rhade the task of the judge, Mrs. J. F. Mills, a difficult one. A class for adults, in six flowers, resulted: — Miss Juliet Williams, 1; Mrs. Mills; 2; Mrs. M. Coop, 3. The points prize, for most points in the show, was won by Mary Cox, 34 points.

There was a good attendance at both of the Muriwai Knitting Circle meetings held recently at the residences of Mrs. R. K. Murphy and Mrs. ,T. F. Mills. Wool for knitting scarves and hoods was distributed, while the various members handed in completed “siren” suits, hoods and slippers. A + Mrs. Murphy’s the ladies were entertained with readings from Kipling, while at the second meeting arrangements were made for the children’s party and flower show. The next meeting will be held at the residence of Mrs. C. H. Williams on Wednesday next.
