LIEUT. HULTQUIST
MEMORIAL TRIBUTES MAKARAKA CEREMONY In accordance with instructions issued, by the Department of Education, schools throughout the Bay of Plenty electorate are organising brief ceremonies to mark the passing of Lieutenant A. G. Hultquist. laie member for the district, whose death occurred recently in the Middle East. At the Makaraka School on Wednesday Mr. W. Jonasen addressed the children and gave a brief biographical sketch of the late Lieutenant Hultquist's career. As chairman of the school committee, he spoke of the energy and enthusiasm which characterised the Parliamentary work of the late member, and also referred to letters in which Lieutenant Hultquist wrote of his experiences in Greece and Crete, and of the return of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force to Egypt.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, a motion of sympathy with Mrs, Hultquist and her daughter was recorded, the teachers and children standing with bowed heads in memory of a gallant soldier.
