WESTMINSTER DAMAGE NAZI BOMBING RAIDS (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 25. An interesting exhibition of photographs and paintings showing the war damage to the Houses of Parliament is now on view to members and peers in the committee room of the House of Commons. A series of paintings by Mr. W. J. McCleod illustrates the completeness of the destruction of the debating chamber of the House of Commons early this year by fire started by oil bombs and incendiaries. One picture shows the fire at its height with firemen fighting the flames amidst a mass of debris and iron girders and stones strewn over the floor of the chamber.
A fine pen and brush painting by Mr. B. Dennis Flaunders shows the extent of the damage to the chamber as seen from an adjacent high point and illustrates the extraordinary way in which the destruction is localised in the chamber itself.
A fable giving dates and the extent of the damage to the Houses of Parliament by enemy action indicates that this has occurred on 12 occasions since the start of the war.
