AMATEUR ATHLETICS
TROPHIES ALLOTTED A decision to award special trophies to competitors gaining most points in the women's, junior men’s, senior men’s, and cyclists’ sections at the four weekly meetings before Christmas was reached at a meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harriers’ Club on Monday evening. The committee expressed its thanks to Mr. Len Grey for his offer to donate a vaulting pole for the first junior competitor clearing Sft. in competition at the club’s weekly meetings. The offer should stimulate interest among the young athletes, more than one of whom has cleared Sft, in practice. The reproduction of such an effort in competition should assure any entrant of a place in the junior pole vault at the centre championship meet. The need for increasing membership was emphasised by members of the committee, and it was stated that nomination forms may be obtained at the premises of Mr. C. E. Brown or Messrs. Fitzmaurice and Butler. Donations from Messrs. E. Harris and J. limes were acknowledged with thanks.
