WAIOEKA TELEPHONES

A further .effort is to be made by the Automobile Association (Auckland), to secure telephonic communication between Gisborne and the Waioeka Gorge that will adequately inform members of the state of the Waioeka road. A step in this direction was taken by the president, Mr. F. G. Farrell, and the secretary, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, when they travelled to Gisborne for last night’s meeting, when Mr. Farrell stated that at present a line from Gisborne connected with Mr. Drake’s house at Traflord’s Hill and a public works line from there through the gorge. The line ■ to Gisborne could not be operated between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. while when no one was in the house there was no connection at all. Now that the association was more acquainted with the facts it would endeavour to have the difficulty corrected, and even if it meant the association making a contribution he felt sure that the council would agree.
