SUBSTANTIAL AGENDA COOK BOARD MEETS COMMITTEE’S REPORT The Cook Hospital Board faced a substantial business list when it met yesterday afternoon, the departmental and committee reports containing ,j considerable amount of material for discussion in addition to that, provided by the correspondence, much of which was dealt ..with in reports by the various committees. Those present were Mr. M. T. TrafTorci, chairman. Mesdames A. M. Reor, E. R. Black, and E. R. Scott. Messrs. H. Adair. Ily. Cooper, J. 11. Hail. W. C. Kuhn, S. T Gray. L. H. L. Maclean, and H. ■!. F. Totnbleson. The finance committee reported that accounts payable from the general account on November 13 totalled £0,295, and that when charges were presented the general account would be £2,750 in debit. The committee recommended that in accordance with the Minister of Health's notification of approval, the agreement with the St. John Ambulance Association be renewed, the basis of the agreement being the payment of a subsidy ol £350 to t lie association. Mr. T. N. Cochrane having notified that payment of accounts duo to him should be paid to hint, the finance committee recommended that this course be taken in cases where he was able to produce satisfactory authority for the payment. OfTer of Services The committee recommended that the offer of Mr, F. C. Jacobs of hi? services as consulting engineer to the board be declined, there being no need for such services. The Health Department having recommended the purchase of a heavier type of sterile water unit, the board’s finance committee approved the purchase on specifications prepared by the Board’s engineer. In view of the small response from possible appointees to advertisements for house-surgeons, the. board was recommended by the finance committee to Hold over any appointments for the time being. The committee reported further that in response to advertisements for nursing staff, one application had beer, received for the post of assistant tutor sister, twm applications had been received for the post of X-ray sister, and none had been received for staff nurse applicants, of which six were available. Four applications had come to hand for the position of. junior sister, two of these being from trainees now undergoing maternity • training in the Cook Maternity Home.

Receipts for October

The managing-secretary, Mr. C. / Harries, reported that receipts foi October had totalled £6,52G, tire debit balance in the current account being £1.338. Levies and subsidies accounted for £3,839 of the income - for the month. Fees charged during the month included £1,948 19s fid due from the Social Security Department. The medical superintendent. Dr. R. J B. Hail, reported that the number of cases in the wards on October 31 was IG3, of which 38 were infectious. The number at the start of the month was 167, with 46 infectious. In the Cook Maternity Homo. 17 babies were born during the month. The lady superintendent, Miss G. M. Leipst, reported that Sister Barnard, Staff-Nurse Mullaney, Sister Le Grogand Nurs? Cranswick, were on annual leave, and Staff Nurse Gillingham had been granted six months' leave for midwifery training. Sister Dickson had resigned to taka up mr-tornity training, /and Staff Nurse Poole proposed to follow the same course.. Staff Nurse: Burrows and Dysart were resigning to take positions elsewhere, and Nurse Cook also wished to be relieved of duty. Two nurses had left without notice, but one returned to ’duty subsequently. Gifts to the Hospital • Gifts of various kinds were acknowledged by Miss Leipst, from the. following: Miss I. Isabeth, Mesdames A. G. Wallace and Mitchell, and several anonymous donors. Sister Pritchard, district nurse at Matawai, reported having treated and advised 75 patients, and paid 152 vigils during October. One maternity case and a school examination wore included in her duties for the month. The custodian of the Memorial Home,. Mr. F. J. Butler, reported that. 40 inmates remained in the home on November 13, nine of the cases being women. The Baptist and Christian Science associations had made gifts of reading matter, and one anonymous donor was also thanked. The farm committee reported that receipts for the month totalled £lB5, and payments had reached £B2, leaving a surplus of £lO3 for the month.
