Mr. and Mrs. T. Adams, Gisborne, have received advice that their son Jack has gained commissioned rank following advanced training with the Royal Air Force in Canada, and is arranging to spend his leave in New York.

The New Zealand Gazette carries a notice that Mr. John Lissant Clayton has been entered as a probationary temporary lieutenant in the R'oyal New Zealand Navy, and has been appointed to H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel II for duty at the navy office, Wellington. Mr. F. G. Farrell, president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), and the secretary, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, arrived at Gisborne last night to attend a meeting of members in the Bon Accord room to-night, when two films depicting overseas scenes and also a road safety film will be screened. Mr. H. W. Bullock, vice-president of the association, and Mr. S. Ringer, the association’s child safety instructor, arrived via the Coast towards the end of last week. A former resident of Ngakuru, near Rotorua, Pilot-Officer E. J. Morey, was recently commissioned, according to advice received by his parents. PilotOfficer Morey, who is 25, received his preliminary training at Levin and New Plymouth. He left for Canada in July, received his "wings” on November 10, and was commissioned seven days later. Educated at the Gisborne High School, he was formerly employed by the Whakatane ElectricPower Board.
