RANGITANE PASSENGER

INJURIES FROM SHELLING One of the passengers most severely injured when the Rangitane was attacked by German raiders in the Pacific nearly a year ago, Sister P. Matthews, has arrived in Auckland from Australia. Sister Matthews was returning to England in the Rangitane after acting as escort to British children evacuated to Australia. When the Rangitane was shelled she was seriously injured by shell splinters. Taken on board one of the raiders, she was treated by German doctors, who, she says, did what they could. After being put ashore at Emirau Island she received attention from the Rangitane’s doctor and she spent some time in hospital in Australia. She is row restored to health and intends going to Darmevirke to stay with friends.
