SWIFT RESPONSE

WORKERS VOLUNTEER BIG FLAG-DAY EFFORT From the various centres throughout the district the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association 'has received assurances of earnest help in connection with the patriotic flag-day effort to be made on November 28 on behalf of the general funds of the East Coast Provincial Patriotic Council. The association assumed the responsibility of conducting the flag-day campaign at the request of the council, which had in mind the capacity of the association for organising town and country sales staffs, as instanced year after year in connection with Poppy Day appeals. This will be the second flag-day held for patriotic purposes in this district, the last having been held in March, 1940, at short notice and without much opportunity for lining up country sellers. On that occasion £275 was raised, but it is expected that this figure will be passed easily by the returns from next Friday’s effort.

For the town sales, a strong force of volunteer sellers is needed. A substantial number already have registered with the Returned Soldiers’ Association for duty; and those willing to assist will be welcomed either at the association’s office, or at Mr. W. Kohn’s office.
