RELIEF OF TOBRUK

BLAMEY’S BELIEF ADEQUATE FORCES PLANS WELL PREPARED (Revd. Nov. 21, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 20. “I have been waiting for this good news for some time.” exclaimed the Australian Commander in the Middle East, Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Blarney, when made aware of the British advance into Libya. He added: Our plans have been well laid. Adequate forces have been provided and it would be very bad luck if the action was not completely successful. General Blarney said the Tobruk garrison would probably be finally freed as a result of this well-organ-ised British push. “We have always been a party to the doctrine of economy of force in using our men and materials,” he continued. “On the other hand the Germans place their faith in blitz methods. This is all very well when it comes off. It has not done so against Russia and I hope will result in the weakening of their forces culminating in the final victory to the British.”
