AWARDS TO AIRMAN
TWO FLYING CROSS BARS (British Official Wireless,) Reed. 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 19. A South African airman, FlightLieutenant P. H. Hugo, D.F.C., who has been continuously engaged in operational flying since the war began, receives a bar to his D.F.C. in recent awards. In recent months Flight-Lieutenant Hugo participated in many attacks on enemy shipping, during which some 35 vessels were sunk, set on fire or damaged. A bar to his D.F.C. has also been awarded Flight-Lieutenant J. R. D. Braham, an English pilot, who destroyed at least seven enemy aircraft and has flown with great skill in adverse weather conditions. The D.F.C. has been awarded Squadron-Leader E. H. Thomas, who fought in the Battle of Britain and, since the beginning of 1941, has taken part in GO sorties over enemy territory.
