RIDING REPRESENTATION (Herald CorresjT-^lent.l A mee'ting of ratepayers was held in Null aka on Monday evening, there being 21 present. Mr. IT. Bayly, 'a member of the Wairoa County Council, was elected to the chair and outlined the purpose for which the meeting 1 had been called, the necessity 6. nominating a member of the Wairoa County Council to fill the vacancy caused through the death of Mr. W. Tait, who had represented the riding for many years. Mr. Bayly paid :s tribute to the faithful work done b> the late Mr. Tait. Messrs. R. Mclntyre, F. Joblin, anc K. Stewart were nominated. A: Messrs. Mclntyre and Joblin received the same number ot votes, anothei vote was taken, but owing to there not being a clear majority, it will be necessary for a poll to be taken.
A small but very energetic band put in a good day’s work on the Nuhaka A. and P. Society's showground or. Saturday. The new spectators’ fence was erected, and late in the afternoon a committee meeting was held, Messrs. F. H. Young, president, J. Pomana, vice-president, P. J- Brewster, secretary, J. Joblin, N. Alexander, B Richardson, J. Goldstone. G. Shaw, J. Small and G. B. Steele, who comprised the working bee, being present. The president moved a vote ot ,sympath> with the relatives of the late Mrs. J Austin, Mrs. K. B. Crcmbie, and Mr. W. Tait, and members stood in silence in honour of their memory. Most o'the business dealt with completing arrangements tor the Show on New Year’s Day. Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs. J. D. Harris and Mrs. M. Ryan, and also to Mr. J. D. Hands tor his generous donation of tencing posts.
