TALK TO TEACHERS
(Herald Correspondent.) A meeting of the Waiapu branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held recently at the Tikitiki School, the president, Mr. W. L. S. Britten. Tokomnru Bay. being in the chair. After morning tea and a short formal business meeting, members were taken for an interesting ramble in the native bush by Mr. L. Middleweek, agricultural instructor for Hawke's Bay. , The fine piece of mixed bush on the hill behind' the Tikitiki School provided excellent material on which to work, and the teacher? were thoroughly interested in Die identification of the various trees. Mr. Middle- 1 week also outlined the modern uses of flie different timbers and the old medicinal uses the Maoris had lor the various leaves, barks, and roots. On returning to the school, members were given a delightful lunch by Mr. .and Mrs. Murphy and helpers. . Appreciative votes of thanks were passed to Mr. Middleweel: for hi? work, and to Mr. and Mrs. Murphy for their hospitality. A guest of honour was Miss M. Ford, travelling infant room supervisor for this district. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. H. Black. Mr. and Mrs. W. Britton, Mr. and Mrs. T. Murphy. Mr. and Mrs. A. Ferguson, Mr. and Mrs. T. Rimmer, Mr. and Mrs. S. Utting. Mr. and Mrs. J. Gardiner; Misses M. Linton, Z. Bartlett, B. Penhalluriack, L. Karauti, and M. Maxwell: Messrs. L. Middleweek, E. Omundsen, G. McKay. A. Norrie. and T. Gretan.
