The suspension of the stock sale last week because of the holiday caused increased entries at the Addington yards yesterday in comparison with ordinary markets. The market was affected to some extent by hot nor’-wcsterly conditions which have been almost continuous in the last week. Values generally were on an easier scale. About. 1000 spring lambs were yarded, mostly of prime quality. The market opened with values up to Sid per lb., but they eased to Sd towards the finish. The freezing works will open next Tuesday, about a fort : night earlier than usual. There was a normal offering of 3300 head of store sheep. There was a good demand for (ill classes of sheep from a small gathering of buyers.' Ewes "and lambs, which formed more than half the entry, sold well, the best making to Ills a head. Ewe hoggets sold to 2fls Id for open wools and several other lots at 2.3 k. Shorn wether hoggets sold at up to 21s. Adult wethers sold at up to 22s iltid. A shipped unit travelled line from Marlborough sold at Its, the lowest price for adult wethers. In the fat cattle sections 52-1 head were penned. They were of mixed quality. Values, were down by 20s a bead for heavy steers, medium prime and best heifers by 10s to 15s a head and cows by 1.5 s a head. The best steers made from Al 7 to Alt) 12s Gil; good, Al 3 IDs to £l6; secondary, down to £lO 10s. Some excellent quality heifers ranged from AI3 to Ats 10s, the average being from At) to All. The best beef Bold at from 36s to 39s per 1001 b.. heavyweights, 33s to 355; secondary, 32s 6d, and cow beef down to 24s per 1001 b. The fat sheep market opened weakly but recovered later. In an entry of 5000 head wethers comprised a big proportion. These sold up to 1s a head easier than at the last sale. With fewer ewes forward, the market remained firm for this class. The best wethers made from 24s to 275, tups to 30s ltd. the average being 20s to 235, and others down to 'ltis. Pens of specially good ewes sold from 24s to 20s 7<l, and' good -prime, from 17s (Id to 20s, medium weight prime from l'4s Gd to 17s, and light and ordinary 10s Gd to 14s. There were heavy entries in all -the pig sections, particularly porkers. Porkers eased by an average of 2s a head and baconcra by about 5s a head. Porkers! made from A2 2s 6d to A 3 Gs Gd, the average heing 6id to BJd per lb. Baconers ranged from A 3" 2s Gd to At 16s Gd, the average being Gd to BJd per lb.
