BUILDING OF HOUSES
FIVE THOUSAND AT HUTT A special Cabinet, committee has been appointed by the Prime Minister, the Rfc Hon. P. Fraser, to consider means of expediting the building of houses, particularly in Wellington and Auckland, by utilising to tpe fullest possible extent the available labour and materials. Wellington’s needs are regarded as particularly pressing, because qf the rapid growth of the population of the city and suburbs and in the liutt Valley. According to the “Standard,” the Government’s plan in the Hutt Valley include the building of about 5000 houses in the area extending from Taita to Silverstream and involve the extension of the railway line from its present terminus at Waterloo further up the valley, the construction Qf a new main sewer, and the provision of another water supply.
