Bird Found in Gullet of Fish
Ringed birds turn up in strange places, but the recovery of a fullgrown gull from the gullet of a large fish caught off the southern coast of Rhode Island this summer ranks among the most unusual recoveries recorded by the Canadian Department, of Mines and Resources. On the gull’s foot was an official numbered metal band, the record of which revealed that the bird was one of a grouo of 171 young gulls ringed in August, 1939, on a small island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence by a migratory-bird officer of the department.
