ABSENCE OF CRIME
WHITE GLOVES FOR JUDGE
Unless in the meantime a prisoner on a plea of guilty is sent from the lower court for sentence, white gloves will be presented for the second time within a year 'when the judge opens the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth on Monday. At the May sessions the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, received a pair of gloves because there was no criminal business on the calendar. Next week Mr. Justice Smith will receive a similar gift. If it is not unique in New Zealand, it is certainly unusal for gloves to be presented at the same place twice within a year. Monday’s ceremony will be only the third recorded occasion in Taranaki within 25 years.
