CRASH ON LOW HILL
NIGHT-FLYING TRAINEE TURNING TO LAND (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this clay. The crash at Woodbourne in which Leading Aircraftman A. O. Hathaway lost his life while on a night training (light occurred about 7.20, soon after he had taken off. The exercises involved a wide circuit of the aerodrome. The machine was seen losing height from about 800 ft. The crash took place on a low, foothill about three miles south-west of the aerodrome, just as the pilot was turning preparatory to coming in to land. The machine was totally wrecked, but did not catch fire.
