VITAL LINKS INTACT

BURMA ROAD BRIDGES SURVEY BY AMERICAN (Reed. Aug. 20, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 19 The Chungking correspondent ol' the New York Times says the potential capacity of the Burma Road is far in excess of the usual estimates of 30,000 tons monthly, according to Mr. Daniel Arnstein, an American truck operator, who has completed a survey of the road for the United States Government. Mr. Arnstein declares it is a good read with a capacity which is practically unlimited. Asphalting is now beginning and is expected to be well advanced by the end of the year. Mr. Arnstein said he expected that 7000 American trucks would be operating on the road shortly. He added that the Chinese chauffeurs were good drivers. Japanese bombing had not appreciably affected the road traffic. The vital bridges were still in use.
