BLACK-OUT COLLISION
UNLIT PARKED TRUCK A plea of not guilty was entered by Edward Martin tMr. L. T. Burnard), in the Gisborne Police Court to-day to a charge of parking a motor truck in Gladstone road without showing the prescribed lights. Evidence was given by a cyclist who came into collision with the truck, and suffered a broken knee-cap. A bystander at the time of the accident stated that from across the street he could see no parking lights on the truck, and the street lights did not throw a sufficient light on the machine. Constable Jones stated that the truck was unlighted, and the nearest street light, a dim one, was 75ft. away. Mr. Burnard pointed out to the magistrate, Mr. E. L. Walton, that motorists continued to park their machines as before the black-out, ano he asked that the case be dealt with under section 92. His Worship imposed a fine of 10s, explaining that this was the first prosecution of the kind since the black-out. The consequences to th: cyclist of the defendant’s neglect wort not trivial, he pointed out to counsel.
