WATCH FOR INVADERS
GERMANS IN FRANCE
LONDON, Aug. 13
The Germans have rigged automatic searchlights along the French coast, to guard against a surprise British landing. Automatic controls swing the beams in half-circles across the coastal waters. They are in action nightly, from dusk to dawn. The Germans apparently assume that whatever else may be in the mind of the Imperial General Staff, a thrust across the Channel would, be part of any British offensive. Observers along Britain’s south coast say that its defences are in “unimaginable contract” with those of last year.
