Preferred Australian Beer
Instead of giving the guests Australian refreshments for a change, the organisers of the reception given by Sir Thomas Cordon, Australian representative of the British Ministry of Transport, to the men and women manning tiro first Soviet freighter to visit Australia, went to great trouble to secure vodka, which they finally procured at 32s 6d a bottle. The Russians chuckled when it was produced, and said they had plenty in the ship, but rarely drank it. They all preferred to drink Australian beer.
