PAY IN THE AIR FORCE
MARRIED MEN IN DOMINION “While in New Zealand, a married man in the air force (provided he is not separated or divorced) receives a minimum rate of pay of £230 per annum,” says the acting-Air Secretary. “This figure is exempt from all taxation and, in addition, uniform, rations, quarters, dental and medical treatment are provided free for himself. “There are no allowances payable for dependants of R.N.Z.A.F. personnel while they are serving in New Zealand, but every married man must undertake to allot an amount which, in the opinion of the department, is sufficient to maintain his family before he is paid the rate of £230. “All assignments and booklets, including the one on morse code and signalling, are issued by the Air Department free of charge, 'flic only expense a candidate need incur is the purchase of a book of logarithm tables (about Is 3d), writing paper and any instruments he may require, such as set-squares.”
