ATTACK ON HULL
NINE PERSONS KILLED FIGHTERS ROUT RAIDERS (Reed. Aug. 19, 10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 18. Few enemy aircraft operated over Britain last night, but one was destroyed, states an Air Ministry communique. Activity was mainly confined to coastal areas in eastern and south-west England. Bombs were dropped at several points and some damage was done. A small number of casualties were reported at one town in the north-east of England. It is revealed that Hull was the town raided last night. Nine people are reported to have been killed and several seriously injured when bombs fell on houses in different areas. A large number of raiders approached but only a few got through and eventually a large force of fighters dispersed the attack. Single enemy aircraft dropped bombs on Sunday afternoon at -a point near the south-east coast of Scotland, causing some damage and a very small number of casualties were caused by machine-gun fire from enemy aircraft.
