Pilot-Officer Neilson (Nick) Williamson, R.N.Z.A.F., is spending a short leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Williamson, Iranui road. Driver H. R. L. Robinson, “Ravenstone,” Mount Bruce, Masterton, was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Leigh, Tolaga Bay. Driver Robinson is training for overseas service. Constable J. McClinchy, formerly stationed at Matawai, who had retired from the police force after 40 years service, was presented with a traveliing rug from his fellow officers in the Hamilton district a few days ago. The presentation was made by Inspector G. B. Edwards, formerly in charge of the Gisborne police district, who referred to Constable McClinchy’s long service, commencing in Christchurch in 1901 and covering several parts of the Dominion, mainly in the North Island, When he retired he was in charge of the Kerepeehi station, on the Hauraki Plains, where he was succeeded by Constable R Beasley Horn Tokomaru Bay. The combined staffs of the secretary and harbourmaster’s departments of the Gisborne Harbour Board met yesterday to farewell Mr. R. J. Patty, dredge-master, who is to enter the Royal New Zealand Air Force this week as a radio technician. Mr. H. A. Barton, secretary-manager, presided over the gathering, and on behalf of Mr. Patty’s fellow-employees of the board, presented him with a handsome wristlet watch in token of the esteem felt for the departing officer. He referred to Mr. Patty’s 2G years’ service with the board, and remarked that all would welcome him warmly on his return from service. Captain G. McK. Smart, harbourmaster, also spoke briefly, congratulating, Mr. Patty on his good service to the board, and wishing him. well in his new service. Mr. Patty responded suitably.
