SENIOR SOCCER
MERCANTILE’S EASY WIN The Mercantile senior soccer team had an easy win by four goals to one in their game against Thistle on Saturday. From the kick-oil’ Mercantile pressed hard and the Thistle defence had a hard time in stopping them from scoring immediately. The Thistle forwards made a determined effort to score, but the ball was cleared by the Mercantile forwards, who made a run down Held to open their scoring, Waugh kicking the goal. Mercantile showed good combination, but Thistle were trying to make single efforts to get through and score. The first half ended in favour of Mercantile with the score three goals to one. In the second half Thistle from the kickoff were unlucky in not scoring a goal, the hall going over the bar. After this there was a fair amount of mid-field play with neither side being able to penetrate the defences of the other. However, a good clearing kick by Houghton let. Mercantile get away and after some excellent passing, they got their final score. The Thistle defence worked very hard and the game ended with the s core, Mercantile four goals, Thistle one. Tile referee was Mr. Waugh.
