DOCK WORKERS
BRITISH EMPLOYMENT NEW CORPORATION LONDON, Aug. 14. The absorption of dock workers whose regular companies have no need of their services will be the main responsibility, of the new national Dock Corporation to be set up by the Government. The corporation will deal with matters of local policy and general administration regarding the requirements of the newest Essential Work (Dock Labour) Order just issued. There will be co-operation with regional port directors and port emergency committees in providing labour for the quick turn-round of ships. It will be a condition of a docker’s employment under the scheme that he Will not only report regularly as required, but will also take any suitable work offered. The cost of all the schemes will be met from the national management fund maintained by the corporation. The preparation of schemes covering the Port of London and the principal ports of the Bristol Channel, the Firth of Forth, the Humber, the Tees and the Tyne is under way and work will commence immediately the corporation is formed.
