UPKEEP OF GROUNDS

INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL TRACTOR-MOWER DEAL A grant of £3OO was sanctioned by the Hawke's Bay Education Board at its meeting in Napier on Friday for the purchase of a tractor for use in the mowing of grass on the Intermediate School grounds. The board agreed to allow the Poverty Bay Cricket Association to have the use of the machine on an hourly working basis. The chairman, Mr. G. A. Maddison, said the board wished to assist Gisborne, and he favoured making a ■giant of £3OO provided the board was net made liable for an annual charge in running the plant. Mr. J. O. Musgrave said that the combined committee in Gisborne had gone into the question fully, and was confident that it would be able to mee. all running costs, as weil as depreciation. The scheme embraced ah schools in Gisborne who wished to take full advantage of it. There was no question of the plant being available lo one school only, but to all schools. The upkeep of the Intermediate School would be made much cheaper by.the proposed arrangement.
