2 IST BIRTHDAY PARTY (Herald Correspondent.) Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Smith entertained a number of their friends in the Reynolds Hall, Tolaga Bay, to celebrate the twenty-first birthday oi their only daughter, Miss Edna Smith. Mrs. Smith received the guests wearing a model frock of brown satin and self-tone lace. The guest of the evening was attired in a pretty blue taffeta frock cut on classical lines and wore a delightful shoulder spray. Mrs. R. Graill presented Miss Smith with a wood pulp posy in tones of red and gold. The presents were numerous and beautiful, .showing the popularity of Miss Smith. Dancing took place in the large hall, which was decorated with spring blossom. and music was supplied by Mr. B. Lincoln, with extras by Mr. T. Lockwood, Mr A. Crozier, and Miss Leigh Kelly. Songs were sung b.\ Mrs. McCullough and Mrs. Knox. A sumptuous supper was served from long tables decorated witH largi bowls of spring flowers daintily arranged by Mrs. A. J. Reid. 1 Pridi of place was taken by a birthday cake, a birthday present from friend. The M.C., Mr. Bradley, proposed lh health of the King, and Mr. Crab that of the guest of honour, to whici Mr. Smith replied on. behalf of hi. daughter, at the same time announcim her engagement to Mr. Ivan Crad. Mr. James proposed the health of I\p. and Mrs. N. R. Smith, Mr. Smith replying. Mr. Ivan Graill thanked a! for their good wishes to his fiancee and himself. Ollier toasts were: "Tin Health of the Grandparents,” proposed by Mr. R. McNeil and replied to by Mr. C. E. Smith; "The Artists,” proposed by Mr. Guthrie and supported by Mr. Percy: “Absent Friends." proposed by the Rev. Mr. Quids. A Monte Carlo waltz was won bv Miss Fletcher and Mr. F. McNab. ' Soldiers Home On Leave Mr. and Mrs. J. McNeil, Arataha, entertained a number of young people at their home on Saturday evening to meet their son, Gunner Douglas McNeil, who is on leave from'Papaknra camp. Mrs. McNeil received the guests wearing a crepe de chine frock in floral tones, and was assisted by Miss L. Fletcher, who wore a frock of blue wool crepe. Games, competitions and community singing were enjoyed, music being supplied by Misses N. James and H. Donald. A duct by Messrs. Ray and Ted Lincoln was well rendered. The drawing-room was artistically decorated with bowls of camellias and Iceland poppies. Supper was served in the breaklastrom.

Mr. J. Milligan, also on leave, was present. Miss Lorna Fletcher presented the guest of the evening with a small gift, wishing him ihe best e. luck. Gunner McNeil suitably responded.
