CHEESE PRODUCTION
GOAL OF 160,000 TONS POSSIBLE NEXT SEASON (Pur Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In an interview with reference to (lie Press Association message from New Plymouth, in which Mr. A. I-lall. the chairman of the Mangarci Cooperative Dairy Company, was said (o have stated that he had received from the director of the dairy division. Mr. W. M. Singleton, information tc the effect that a survey had disclosed that the 160,000 tons of cheese required by Britain from New Zealand is assured, the director of the dairy division states the published statement is incorrect and misleading. “I have never made a statement oi this nature,” states the director. "In fact, I have stressed, and still stress, the necessity of all producers and cheese factories exerting themselves tc the limit in order that we might approximate such an output. Under normal climatic conditions certain cheese factories which are now being reorganised cannot get started at the commencement of the season, but these should be in a position to either make cheese throughout next winter or open up early in the spripg.of 1942. If. is reasonable to expect that the objective of 160.000 tons should be reached in the 1942-43 season.”
