NATIONAL SAVINGS
FLAG COMPETITION EDENDALE IN LEAD (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. ‘’The outstanding item in connection with the national savings flag competition during the fourteenth fortnightly period of the contest, which ended on August 7, was the attainment of 100 per cent success at three offices in the Invercargill district, namely, Edendale, Riverton, and Waikaka.” At -each of these offices, the number of depositors now equals the total population. Edendale, as the holder, retains the privilege of flying the flag for the ensuing fortnight. No alteration in the positions of the leading towns in other districts is disclosed, but increased percentages are recorded in each case for all districts. The leading towns are as follows: Auckland district, Ruawai; Blenheim dictriet, Picton; Christchurch district, Waiau; Dunedin district, Owaka; Gisborne district, Te Araroa; Greymouth district, Hokitika; Hamilton district, Rotorua; Invercargill district, 'Edendale, Riverton and Waikaka; Napier district, Porangahau; Nelson district, Murchison; New Plymouth district, Stratford; Oamaru district, Kurow; Palmerston North district, Pongaroa; Thames district, Thames; Timaru district, Geraldine; Wanganui district, Ghakune Junction; Wellington district, Featherston; Westport district, Westport. For the third stage of the competition which commenced on August 8, the contest is restricted' to towns with a population of 1000 or more.
