RAIDS ON ITALY

Royal Air Force attacks on enemy objectives in both North Africa and Italy are announced in a Royal Air Force Middle East communique which states: “Royal Air Force bombing aircraft attacked several objectives in Cyrenaica during the night of August 11-12. Blenheims bombed both landing grounds and dispersal areas at Gazala. Cloud prevented accurate observation of the result. “At Bardia military buildings were bombed and set on fire and the mole at Derna was straddled with bombs. "Royal Air Force bombers successfully attacked chemical works at ivrotonne in southern Italy on August if. Many direct hits caused great damage to storage tallies and containers and the whole objective was a mass of flames when our aircraft left. Other bombers attacked and demolished military buildings at Cariati. Enemy aircraft flew over Malta ■.luring the night of August 11-12 ana dropped bombs which did a small amount of damage. Our lighters .ntercepted and shot down two of the enemy. “During the same night our bombers carried out a raid of long duration on the harbour at Tripoli. Harbour ouildings were destroyed and a persistent lire started near the power nouse. Our aircraft, in addition, machine-gunned enemy motor transport on a coast road in the neighbourhood. “One of our aircraft is missing from these operations.”
