COLOGNE BOMBED
DAYLIGHT RAID R.AT. BLOWS IN FRANCE HEAVY NIGHT ATTACKS (Elec. Tel Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 11 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 12. The Royal Air Force carried out extensive operations over northern France and Germany to-day, including the bombing of a power station near Bethune and railway communications near St. Omer by Hampden bombers escorted by fighters, and an attack on objectives at Cologne by several squadrons of Blenheims. Crowds on the sea coast are reported to, have watched almost continuous flights of aeroplanes passing high overhead on the journey to France. An Air Ministry communique states: “In spite of bad weather. Royal Air Force bombers last night attacked objectives at Krefeld. Rheydt and the Munich-Gladbach areas in west Germany. The Rotterdam docks also were bombed. “Fighter Command planes attacked enemy aerodromes in northern France and the Low Countries during the night. None of our aircraft is missing from these operations.” A Berlin communique states: — "During last night weak enemy forces flew over the Reich’s frontier and dropped bombs on various communities in western Germany, causing some damage.”
